Admittedly I do not think I have heard this word. I may be wrong, but me being wrong, nope do not think so! Us mom's are never wrong! *chuckle*
So...our word for today's Word of the Day Wednesday is:
Whilom - \WYE-lum\ - adjective: former Examples sentence: "His fatal miscalculation, however, might be his personal attacks on his whilom friend...." (The Baltimore Sun, May 2003)
Did you know?
"Whilom" shares an ancestor with the word "while."
Both trace back to the Old English word "hwil," meaning "time" or
"while." In Old English "hwilum" was an adverb meaning "at times." This
use passed into Middle English (with a variety of spellings, one of
which was "whilom"), and in the 12th century the word acquired the
meaning "formerly." The adverb's usage dwindled toward the end of the
19th century, and it has since been labeled "archaic." The adjective
first appeared on the scene in the 15th century, with the now-obsolete
meaning "deceased," and by the end of the 16th century it was being used
with the meaning "former." It's a relatively uncommon word, but it does
see occasional use.
Have a great day and don't forget to try out your new word today!
My thanks to Merriam-Webster online, yet again for our
new word all information pertaining to said word: whilom.
As part of Funny Mondays today I am using the odd, weird news to start our week off right! We all need something to laugh about and there is nothing better than some really idiotic news to help those laughs role.
Enjoy! Man Found Because of His Sneakers!
A man running from the law in El Paso, TX was caught because they spotted his sneakers under a pile of teddy bears.
In an attempt to keep tourists from wearing bathing suits into public places, Barcelona has issued this sign.
Very interesting! One can purchase from a vending machine gold ingots at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Come on and let's take a trip to see just how this vending machine works!
Can we just say GROSS? Apparently stuffing human hair into stockings (pantyhose) can help with the oil spill off Louisianan. I am all for helping with the clean-up, but just the thought of huge hairballs (chuckle) being used is just plain WEIRD!

I went searching for an interesting word from Merriam-Webster today. Normally I just use what is listed for today's word of the day, but I went back to the 17th on the Merriam-Webster web site and this is what I found.
omnium-gatherum • \ahm-nee-um-GA-thuh-rum\ - Noun: a miscellaneous collection (as of things or persons).
The book, a collection of short stories, is an omnium-gatherum of works by various writers.
That is the motto of Aruba: "One Happy Island". Cool huh? Why "One Happy Island"? Well, if the majority of us only had to work 8-8 1/2 hrs a day, get up late (most places didn't open until 10am), I think we would all be happy too.
The government controls how late businesses stay open, how many hours one is allowed to work in a week and they even dictate vacation time.
Unless it has changed, workers in Aruba get 15 days vacation a year and 11 paid holidays. AWESOME!
The first photo is of a beach along the southern tip of Aruba. All the dark spots in the water? Those are coral beds. Snorkeling is awesome on the island!
Enough about their labor laws. Would you like to see some pictures? Enjoy and don't get too jealous!
Iguanas abound on this island. Aruba has iguanas, like New York has rats. They are so cool to watch; especially when they just sit there in the sun, soaking up the warmth.
This is the view you get driving down the main road on the west side of the island; heading into downtown. Absolutely beautiful!
